The Power of Consistency
Updated 4/12/2023

The Ark Encounter is 45 minutes from my house, and it is AMAZING. I will never look at the bible story the same again. One thing that struck me is they think it took Noah about 60 years to build the ark. 60 years!! As I waited in line on my last visit watching the 2 year time laps video of the construction using modern equipment and engineering, I thought about Noah.

He woke up every day to do tasks that seemed crazy. He was not a boat builder. He didn't live by the ocean, and there was no visual motivation that a GIANT boat would be needed. On the days he had to find and haul giant tree logs from who knows where using who knows what, I bet he seriously questioned why the crap he was doing that.

How many times did he think he could just give up or cut corners and do the bare minimum? For 60 years he labored, alone or with crew of children, at the daily tasks to build something that seemed unnecessary and impossible.

As I walked through the amazing space recounting the details of the story and of this replica, I imagined his Ark full of food and supplies for him, his family, and his floating zoo, and thought about the reward of his consistency - to be snug in the Ark with adequate supplies and safety while the world was drowning.

There are a few, and only a few things, that I have been asked to do that would take 60+ years of consistency.
  1. Develop my character.
  2. Create a financial legacy.
  3. Raise my children to be wise managers of the legacy.

Sometimes it feels like I have all the time in the world. But just like Noah, my daily use of time and my other resources to construct what often feels like a monstrosity of the assignment, will be held accountable when relentless Father Time comes knocking.
